In the abandoned terminal of a former ferry station in San Antonio, Ibiza, a fictional conversation takes place between visual artist Michael Dörner and philosopher Walter Benjamin. The starting point is Benjamin’s stay on the island in 1932 and 1933. While Benjamin came to Ibiza as a traveller and later as a refugee from National Socialism, he returns in this work as a voice of memory.
Two portraits enter into dialogue with each other: a historical photo of Walter Benjamin and an older portrait of the artist himself. Both figures appear as travellers through time – one from the past, the other between memory and the present. In the empty check-in hall, a place of transition and movement, they talk about travel, flight, poverty, architecture, mass tourism, history and the fragility of political orders.
The glass palace of the former ferry station becomes a symbolic space. Once built for arrivals and departures, it now stands still and serves as a temporary venue for art. In this intermediate state, a conversation unfolds about the past and the present, about memory and responsibility.
The work sees itself as an artistic journey through time, in which personal biography, historical reflection and philosophical thinking come together. Past and present enter into a constellation in which – very much in the spirit of Walter Benjamin – a moment of condensed time can reveal itself.

En la abandonada terminal de una antigua estación de transbordadores en San Antonio, Ibiza, tiene lugar una conversación ficticia entre el artista plástico Michael Dörner y el filósofo Walter Benjamin. El punto de partida es la estancia de Benjamin en la isla en los años 1932 y 1933. Mientras que Benjamin llegó a Ibiza como viajero y más tarde como refugiado del nacionalsocialismo, en esta obra regresa como una voz que recuerda.
Dos retratos entablan un diálogo: una foto histórica de Walter Benjamin y un retrato antiguo del propio artista. Ambos personajes aparecen como viajeros a través del tiempo: uno desde el pasado, el otro entre el recuerdo y el presente. En la sala de embarque vacía, un lugar de tránsito y movimiento, hablan de viajes, huida, pobreza, arquitectura, turismo de masas, historia y la fragilidad de los órdenes políticos.
El palacio de cristal de la antigua estación de transbordadores se convierte así en un espacio simbólico. Construido en su día para las llegadas y las salidas, hoy permanece inactivo y sirve como lugar temporal para el arte. En este estado intermedio se desarrolla una conversación sobre el pasado y el presente, sobre la memoria y la responsabilidad.
La obra se entiende como un viaje artístico en el tiempo, en el que se encuentran la biografía personal, la reflexión histórica y el pensamiento filosófico. El pasado y el presente entran en una constelación en la que, en el sentido de Walter Benjamin, puede manifestarse un momento de tiempo condensado.
