Zum vierten Mal \u2013 nach den erfolgreichen Projekten der Jahre 2023, 2024 und 2025 \u2013 trifft sich eine Gruppe von K\u00fcnstlerinnen und Kuratorinnen aus Hamburg und Ibiza in Sant Antoni de Portmany. Gemeinsam setzen sie sich k\u00fcnstlerisch mit Migration, Bewegung und Reisen auseinander \u2013 sowie mit den damit verbundenen Themen wie Sehnsucht, Wunsch, Inspiration, Gl\u00fcck, aber auch Haltlosigkeit und Verlust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerade in Zeiten eines zunehmend regressiven Verhaltens der Gro\u00dfm\u00e4chte erscheint es wichtiger denn je, dass K\u00fcnstler*innen diesen konservativen und abschottenden Bewegungen etwas entgegensetzen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Im Unterschied zu einer rein \u00f6konomisch-rationalen Sichtweise steht es K\u00fcnstlerinnen frei, das lineare Verst\u00e4ndnis von Zeit zu hinterfragen und zeit\u00fcbergreifende Positionen zu entwickeln. Das ehemalige Ferry Terminal in San Antonio ist ein transparenter, funktionaler Ort \u2013 gebaut, um Menschen f\u00fcr einen begrenzten Zeitraum Schutz und Orientierung zu bieten. Es ist ein Transitraum: Ein Ort des Durchgangs, in dem sich dauerhaft nur die dort Arbeitenden aufhalten. Reisende \u2013 ob Touristinnen, Arbeitende oder Gefl\u00fcchtete \u2013 folgen den Regeln solcher R\u00e4ume. Weltweit entstehen Transitr\u00e4ume \u00fcberall dort, wo Menschen sich von A nach B bewegen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ein Ferry Terminal schafft jedoch keine klassische \u00d6ffentlichkeit wie ein Platz oder gar das Schiff selbst. Es ist vielmehr eine regulierte Form von \u00d6ffentlichkeit \u2013 ein architektonisch organisiertes Flie\u00dfen innerhalb eines Zeitkontinuums. Es vereint Raum- und Zeitkonzepte, Pl\u00e4ne und Bewegungsstrukturen in einem multidimensionalen System, dessen Logik vor allem funktional und taktisch bestimmt ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doch dieses Terminal hat seine urspr\u00fcngliche Funktion verloren. Die leere Halle zeugt vom permanenten Wandel gesellschaftlicher und \u00f6konomischer Strukturen. Erneut sind es wirtschaftliche Argumente, die dazu f\u00fchren, dass R\u00e4ume verwaisen, weil ihre zugedachte Funktion nicht l\u00e4nger ben\u00f6tigt wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aus \u00f6konomischer Perspektive mag diese Entwicklung folgerichtig erscheinen \u2013 aus k\u00fcnstlerischer Sicht jedoch er\u00f6ffnet sie neue M\u00f6glichkeiten. K\u00fcnstler*innen sind Reisende ohne festgelegtes Ziel. Sie suchen Orte, an denen ihre Ideen Raum finden. Freiheit steht f\u00fcr sie \u00fcber Zweckm\u00e4\u00dfigkeit. Gerade deshalb wird ein Transitraum \u2013 ein Ort ohne Verweildauer \u2013 zur besonderen Herausforderung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dieser Herausforderung stellt sich eine Gruppe von K\u00fcnstlerinnen und Kuratorinnen aus Hamburg und Ibiza. Sie widmen sich dem Zwischenraum, dem \u00dcbergang, dem Durchgang \u2013 ebenso wie den Fragen von Overtourismus, Mobilit\u00e4t und globaler Bewegung. F\u00fcr eine Woche arbeiten und interagieren sie in dieser ungew\u00f6hnlichen Umgebung. Dabei reflektieren sie eine sich ver\u00e4ndernde Wirklichkeit und setzen sich k\u00fcnstlerisch mit Themen wie Migration, Flucht, Massentourismus, Angst und Diskriminierung auseinander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sie stellen Fragen wie:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was treibt Menschen an, sich permanent \u00fcber den Globus zu bewegen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ist nicht das Leben selbst eine Reise? Sind wir nicht st\u00e4ndig auf der Durchreise? Wo ist unsere Heimat, wo unser Zuhause?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wo liegt die Schnittstelle zwischen Flucht und Tourismus? Welche Gef\u00fchle pr\u00e4gen Transitorte? Welche Rolle spielt Identit\u00e4t?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00e4sst sich die Geschichte der Menschheit als Geschichte kontinuierlicher Bewegung verstehen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wie werden stillgelegte Orte wie dieses Terminal k\u00fcnftig genutzt? Wie sieht San Antonio in 50 Jahren aus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das stillgelegte Terminal l\u00e4dt Besucher*innen ein, \u00fcber Utopien und Dystopien nachzudenken \u2013 \u00fcber Wahrnehmung und Wirklichkeit im Zustand des \u00dcbergangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the fourth time – following the successful projects in 2023, 2024 and 2025 – a group of artists and curators from Hamburg and Ibiza are coming together in Sant Antoni de Portmany. Together, they will artistically explore migration, movement and travelling – as well as associated themes such as longing, desire, inspiration, happiness, but also hopelessness and loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Especially in times of increasingly regressive behaviour by the major powers, it seems more important than ever for artists to counter these conservative and isolationist movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast to a purely economic and rational perspective, artists are free to question the linear understanding of time and develop positions that transcend time. The former Ferry Terminal in San Antonio is a transparent, functional place – built to offer people shelter and orientation for a limited period of time. It is a transit space: a place of passage where only the people working there are permanently present. Travellers – whether tourists, workers or refugees – follow the rules of such spaces. Transit spaces are created all over the world wherever people move from A to B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a ferry terminal does not create a classic public space like a square or even the ship itself. Rather, it is a regulated form of public space – an architecturally organised flow within a time continuum. It combines concepts of space and time, plans and structures of movement in a multidimensional system whose logic is primarily functional and tactical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this terminal has lost its original function. The empty hall bears witness to the permanent transformation of social and economic structures. Once again, it is economic arguments that lead to spaces becoming deserted because their intended function is no longer required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From an economic perspective, this development may seem logical – from an artistic perspective, however, it opens up new possibilities. Artists are travellers without a fixed destination. They look for places where their ideas find space. For them, freedom is more important than expediency. This is precisely why a transit space – a place without a fixed destination – becomes a special challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of artists and curators from Hamburg and Ibiza have taken up this challenge. They are dedicated to the in-between space, the transition, the passage – as well as the questions of overtourism, mobility and global movement. For one week, they will work and interact in this unusual environment. In doing so, they reflect on a changing reality and deal artistically with topics such as migration, flight, mass tourism, fear and discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They ask questions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What drives people to constantly move across the globe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isn’t life itself a journey? Aren’t we constantly travelling? Where is our home, where is our home?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is the interface between flight and tourism? What feelings characterise people in transit? What role does identity play?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can the history of mankind be understood as a history of continuous movement?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How will disused places like this terminal be used in the future? What will San Antonio look like in 50 years?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disused terminal invites visitors to think about utopias and dystopias – about perception and reality in a state of transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
